Rich Stetler was a long-time teacher and coach at Jenkintown High School. After a nearly 40-year career as a physical education teacher, varsity coach in football and baseball and a middle school coach in football, basketball and baseball, as well as time as a trainer and athletic director, Mr. Stetler retired from teaching in 2011. He continues to coach baseball as an assistant coach.
This award was created in 2013 upon Mr. Stetler’s retirement as a teacher in the District. The award given in his name recognizes a Senior male or female athlete who earns at least two varsity letters in two different sports (demonstrating commitment), acts as a ‘player-coach’ in helping teach the game to others, and maintains a minimum 3.00 GPA during their high school career. A perpetual plaque of winners is in the gymnasium lobby.
Coaches nominate one (1) eligible senior from their respective teams. Those nominations are then voted upon by the varsity coaches to determine the winner.
