On Thursday, May 18, Mrs. Hackett’s 4th period 7th graders and The Black Student Union teamed up with The Home and School Association to plant in the school garden. Students planted to encourage tradition and a sense of community connecting the activity to the reading of “Brown Girl Dreaming” by Jacqueline Woodson and African-American culture and heritage. Thank you to Sandi Spindler who volunteered to lead in the process.
Yesterday morning, the Enviro class delivered over 130 tomato, pepper, and eggplant seedlings to the Loaves & Fishes community food cupboard. Mrs. Laura Sissick estimated that every client family would be able to take home 2 or 3 seedlings!
Congratulations to Gavin Lafferty and Pearl Ramke, who received awards for their submitted essays in the Stossel in the Classroom National Essay Contest. Out of over 2200 entrants, Gavin placed as a semi-finalist and Pearl as a finalist, reflective of their fine work all year in their studies here at Jenkintown. Their essays centered on how to best utilize the technological advances developed in our country.
A well-deserved honor for both Gavin and Pearl!
