Attention 4th Grade BAND parents! The winter band concert is on Thursday, January 18, 2018! Children must arrive at 7:00 pm and report to Ms. Davidson’s music room in the H.S. The concert begins at 7:30. The 4th grade band is FIRST on the program. After their performance, the children will return to the music room. You may enjoy the rest of the concert, or sign out your child from the music room.
The students should wear a white shirt/blouse, black pants/skirt, and black shoes.
We will continue with our Tuesday combined band rehearsals for the next 2 weeks from 3:00-4:00 on January 9 and January 16. Your child should be practicing daily over the next 2 weeks! If child is struggling, please email Mr. Eyrich and he will set up a recess appointment for help.

Want to go holiday shopping without the kids? It’s time for the 11th annual Drop N’ Shop! Holiday shopping without the kids. Babysitters will handle it all with lunch, drinks games, movies etc. Dates: December 2, 9 and 16, with a special guest appearance by Santa on Dec. 16. Time: 12-4 pm. Cost: $8.00 per child. If you want to write a check please make it payable to BSA Troop 201. Reservations required. Ages: Kindergarten through 6th grade.
How about another break? Let your kids learn French while having fun! The World Language Movie Day is on December 13th in the high school auditorium from 3-5 pm. Cost is $5.00. Form and money are due by Monday, December 11.
The last day of school before the holiday break is December 22. It will be a full day for our students. We will have a sing-along for the students in the afternoon.

A note from Fred Eyrich for 4th grade parents — Please have your children practice their instruments regularly and fill in and sign the log books! There is no way your child can be successful without practicing to reinforce what they are being taught. Their first concert is 12 weeks away and the children are working on songs on pages 6 and 7 in their books. To prepare for their first band concert, we need all the lesson groups to rehearse together. These rehearsals will take place AFTER SCHOOL from 3:00-4:00 on the following Tuesdays: December 5, December 12, December 19, January 9 and January 16. These rehearsals are in addition to the regularly weekly scheduled lessons.
The winter band concert is on Thursday, January 18, 2018 and will feature the 4th grade band, ES band, MS band and HS wind ensemble. The concert dress is white shirt/blouse, black pants/skirt, and black shoes. The children must arrive at 7:00 pm and the concert begins at 7:30 pm. The 4th grade band is first on the program.
If your child is struggling, they can come during lunch recess or after school for extra help. Please contact Fred Eyrich to set up an appointment.
American Education Week is coming up. The parent community is welcome to visit our school during specific times. On Monday, Nov. 13, Kindergarten visitation is from 9 until 9:45. Also on Monday, second grade is from 10-10:45. Monday also includes 3rd grade f rom 1:15-2. On Tuesday, November 14, the fourth grade visitation is from 10-10:45. On Wednesday, November 15 the first grade meets from 9-9:45. Also on Wednesday the 5th and 6th grades meet from 10-11.
Please do not bring cell phones or cameras to these visitations. Also, please do not bring siblings. This is an opportunity to observe daily instructional programs. If you have specific questions for the teacher, please email them or address these questions during their conference on November 20 or 21.

Calling all Jenkintown Girls entering grades 1-7! Take part in the Jenkintown Girls Lacrosse Summer Camp, July 17-20! Participants will play games, practice their throwing, catching, ground ball, and shooting skills by taking part in a wide variety of activities and games! The camp will be lead by Ken Rodoff, head coach of the Jenkintown HS lacrosse team, along with current student-athletes from the high school team. The camp is open only to Jenkintown students and all proceeds benefit the Jenkintown HS Girls Lacrosse team.
The 6th grade graduation is on Friday, June 16 at 9:30 am in the High School Auditorium. This is also the last day of school!

Create fence art at the Fairy Garden. Play Recycling Relay and Recycling Free Throw Game. Help plant new seeds and plants in the Rain Garden and Fairy Garden. Bring some gardening gloves and gardening tools. Rain date is April 28.

Dear 4th grade Instrumental Music Parents, It is hard to believe that our spring concert is only about 6 weeks away! Hopefully, you are still seeing and hearing the instruments as your child prepares for the concert. Practicing once or twice a week is not sufficient time for your child to be successful and learn to play their instrument.
In order to prepare for our Spring Concert, we will have combined after school rehearsals on the following Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00 pm.

To 4th Grade Band Students: We began our instrumental music lessons last week. This week 9/26 all students should have their assigned instruments and the lesson book – Essential Elements 2000 for their instrument. Clarinet and saxophone players should also get a few extra reeds! If you are having any difficulties, please contact Mr. Eyrich as soon as possible. I am also placing a copy of the lesson schedule in this Monday Folder, so you know what day your child needs his/her instrument each week. Thank you from Mr. Eyrich

Summer Band Camp 2016
Our annual summer band camp is scheduled for August 15-18. The camp will run daily from 9:00-12:00 and is open to students in the Jenkintown School District that have at least one year of experience playing a musical instrument. The camp will be held in the band room. Students will work on scales, technique exercises and several band songs during the 4 day camp. The cost of the camp is $100 per student.

Attention 6th graders! If you want to play sports in Middle School, there is a sign-up sheet for physicals in the High School Office. The date that the doctors are coming is June 7th from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. The cost is $15.00 per student. Cash or check made out to School District of Jenkintown is accepted. Please donate to the “Backpacks for Haiti” fundraiser! Jenkintown High School’s World Language Honor Society is collecting donations for their “Backpacks for Haiti” fundraiser. Last year they were able to donate 60 backpacks to a school in Haiti. Please be generous. There will be a collection bin in the elementary office.

In order to prepare for our Spring Concert, we will have after school rehearsals on the following Tuesdays from 3:00 -4:00:
March 15 and March 29 and April 5, 12 and 19
Please be sure that your child is prepared with their instrument and book on these days. These rehearsals are for the combined 4th grade band and are in addition to the regular Thursday and Friday lessons.
Our Spring Concert is Thursday, April 21 at 7:30. Dress is white shirt or blouse, black pants or skirt and black shoes.

Movie Afternoon for JES Students! March 3 in H.S. Auditorium from 11:30 – 2:00. Movies are Emperor’s New Groove and Kronk’s New Groove. Cost is $4.00 and includes water and chips. Students can bring lunch and eat in the cafeteria. Return permission slips by Wednesday, March 2.

If your child is going to begin learning a musical instrument this year, please attend the introductory meeting at 6:15 pm on Wednesday, September 16 (prior to the Back to School night meeting). We will meet in the band room (across from the cafeteria). I will be explaining our program, answering questions and distributing information from music retailers about renting instruments. We are planning on beginning lessons during the week of September 21.
