Students at Jenkintown are able to take advantage of a flexible curriculum, which is tailored to meet individual needs. Graduation requirements include 4 credits in English, 4 credits in Social Studies, 4 credits in Science, 4 credits in Mathematics, 2.5 credits in Physical Education & Health, 2.5 credits in Arts and Humanities, .5 credits in Technology, .5 credits in Public Speaking and 6.5 credits in elective courses; totaling 28.5 credits. Study of at least two years of the same Foreign Language is strongly encouraged for those students in a college preparatory program.
Although students are grouped heterogeneously, enriched and independent study programs for capable students are provided in several areas. Elective programs include offerings in Art, Business, English, Tech Ed, Mathematics, Music, Science, and Social Studies. Honors and/or AP courses are available in Social Studies, English, Science, Mathematics, Music, Art and Foreign Language.
Daily Schedule and Class Rotation
Jenkintown Middle/High School operates under an eight-period/42 minute daily bell schedule with optimal student learning as the focus. All school in-service days are typically scheduled on Tuesdays.
In order to reduce the impact of early dismissals related to extra curricular activities, the afternoon schedule rotates.
