Annual Notification of AHERA Management Plan Availability

2/15/2018

Dear Parents, Teachers, Employee Organizations, Building Occupants and Legal Guardians of Children:

In accordance with the AHERA Regulation (40 CFR 763.93 (g) (4) concerning Notification of Plan Availability, please be advised that the AHERA Management Plan is located in the District Administration Building at 325 Highland Avenue in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.  Please contact the Principal of Jenkintown Elementary and High School if you would like to make an appointment to review the Management Plan.

The Management Plan is a site-specific guidance document that Mr. Michael Panepresso of Criterion Laboratories, Inc. (Criterion), the Jenkintown School District’s Designated Person, must follow in managing the asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM) present in the schools.

ACBM at the middle/high school consists of non-friable (cannot be crumbled, pulverized or reduced to powder by simple hand pressure; accordingly, non-friable materials are less likely to release fibers that can become airborne and create a health hazard) floor coverings and transite wall panels.  Friable materials (i.e. silver/white light fixture paper and light wire insulation) can be found in areas of limited access such as the Library Storage Room and the Auditorium Stage/Catwalk.

All known identified ACBM have been removed from the elementary school.  It is possible that additional ACBM (i.e. pipe insulation) may be found behind hard walls and above hard ceilings pursuant to renovations/demolition.

The Management Plan is updated to keep it current with the on-going operations and maintenance, periodic surveillance, resinspection and response action activities.  Criterion, an EPA-accredited and Pennsylvania-licensed asbestos consulting firm, has completed our last eight (8) AHERA 3-Year Reinspections.  If you should have any questions regarding Criterion’s Reinspection reports or the Management Plan, please feel free to contact Mr. Michael Panepresso of Criterion at (215) 244-1300, extension 1026.
