Mrs. VanMeter’s Environmental Science seniors put together their hydroponics units on February 1st, and they will share a salad in class on Friday, March 1st after we weigh the edible mass of the plants. The next round of hydroponics will be ready immediately after spring break for donation to the Jenkintown Food Cupboard. While hydroponic food production methods have been used for over 100 years, modern programmable systems show great potential for growing food with low inputs.
The 8th graders planted potatoes during their Earth Science class to accompany their study of The Martian. They recorded the mass of the planted eye sprouts and recalculated how much they could grow at harvest time.
