Jenkintown Strong

Dear Jenkintown Community,

The death of George Floyd, and the subsequent protests, have deeply impacted our community.  The racism that was at the heart of Mr. Floyd’s death, and the deaths of far too many other people of color, must be replaced by peace and acceptance, especially at a time when the nation is suffering and needs to come together.

One benefit of being part of a close-knit school community is that we strive to create a safe and nurturing environment for our children, which shields them from the harsh realities of the world. Moments like this, challenge each of us to confront difficult topics such as race, privilege, and discrimination. While these conversations may be difficult to have, it is essential that they take place so that the troubling events we are currently experiencing, do not continue and are not repeated.

We must begin by confronting these difficult topics by listening to each other, supporting one another, and celebrating differences. We hope that you and your family find strength in knowing that Jenkintown is a school community that supports each family. We stand committed to promoting policies and practices that are equitable for all students. Furthermore, we hope that our families share, with teachers and administrators, their hopes for the kind of diverse and inclusive community they seek.

We are here to support you and your children as they grow, learn, and navigate this difficult world. Even though we are in a remote learning environment, our administrators and school counselors are available to families. Topics surrounding equity and inclusion can often be difficult for parents and guardians to discuss with their children. To assist with this, we have gathered a wide range of resources.

We look forward to discussions with our community, students, and staff that will move us forward in our quest for social justice and equity for all.

Stay safe and be well,
